Traditional marketing is slowly becoming irrelevant and business owners have to be strategic in order to target their ideal customers or clients to be able to survive in this new world of highly informed customers, gone are the days when companies could push out sleazy commercials and get their products or services sold out. These days’ marketing your products or services is almost impossible without great content especially if you are an online business owner. You have to create content that speaks directly to your target customers, create awareness that educates your prospects about industry trends and important information they need to know about surrounding your product.

The goal is to attract your ideal customers and convert these prospects to buying customers so your business can keep growing, but if the buyers you are attracting aren’t a good fit then this will greatly hinder your business growth. So focus on your ideal customers and understand their needs/challenges so you can properly gear your marketing efforts towards attracting them.

Seth Godin once said, “everyone is not your customer” — and he’s correct!!!

When trying to identify your ideal customers, always consider the 3P’s

  1. Person
  2. Problem
  3. Promise

Person: Who is your ideal customer/client you would love to SERVE

Problem: What are you helping them to SOLVE

Promise: What method you use to deliver the PROMISE

Once you understand your ideal clients, not only will you attract the clients who are willing to buy, these clients will position you to showcase your best work, so you can show other prospects the benefits of doing business with you. That is why it is so important to focus all your energy targeting the right clients because when you try to market to everyone, you market to no one.

Follow these simple steps on how to identify your target market and how to attract your ideal client below to start growing your business.

  • What qualities would your ideal clients have?
  • What attributes do they have? It could be (age range, geographic location, motivations or special interest)
  • What problems are they trying to solve? What makes them your best prospects? It could be the unique problem they are facing at that particular point in their life or business in general.
  • How can you easily spot them? What makes them a good fit? Do they belong to some kind of club or associations etc…

The aim is to convert your visitors from the point they become aware of your product or services to customers, get them satisfied, retain them and turn them into evangelist. Wouldn’t that be great for your business? Every client is different and unique in their needs, you need to understand how to create great content marketing message that speaks directly to a defined group of ideal customers or clients. Although for most new business owners just starting out, it just might be a bit difficult to pick and choose who they want to work with because they want to make money. It is very difficult to work with a client who doesn’t appreciate your work and takes up all of your time, this can be very frustrating because it will end up costing you more than they are paying for. This is the reason why you absolutely need to define your ideal clients so you have a clear picture of your exact target market.

Here are a few ways you can attract clients who actually need your product or service.

Create a buyer persona: A buyer persona is a great way to create a detailed description of someone who represents your target audience. The main idea is to be able to speak directly to the model like you would a client right in front of you, with this you can craft marketing messages that speak directly and connect with them.

Use this tool to create a buyer persona.

Identify their biggest pain points or problems: A pain point is a specific problem that your clients or customers are experiencing, it has to do with the problems they are trying to solve because it is holding them back from achieving what they want to. But sometimes your marketing efforts might face some challenges especially if the clients don’t really understand the problem they have and that your product or service can help them, this group of clients need a little convincing to educate them about your solution.

Be Social: Your ideal clients are everywhere and looking for solutions on the internet to help them figure out who out there can solve the problem they are experiencing at that particular time in their life. Positioning your solution online is one of the best ways to attract your ideal client to your business. Breakdown your solution and the benefits, then create quality contents that your ideal can connect with. Visit platforms where your ideal clients usually spend most of their time talking about the problems they are experiencing, use these platforms to distribute information about your solutions, the more you show up with your solutions and creating awareness, the more they are more likely to buy from you.

Be Results Oriented: Focus on crafting the message on the results they can get and not the cost of the service or product, get feedback and reviews from previous clients as proof that you can deliver great results.

Once you understand how to attract your ideal clients or customers, creating messages that attract them to your business, you will begin to see your business grow, most importantly as your business evolves so will your ideal clients, it is a continual process and should be tweaked from time to time as your business grows.
